Our client needed access across their site, where the ground had become extremely boggy, for heavy machinery. The soft conditions posed a serious challenge for this recent Winter project. Vehicles risked sinking, creating potential safety hazards, and it would be difficult for machinery to move reliably across the site. With no stable surface available, the work was slowing down and delaying progress toward reopening the area.

The Site Manager’s priority was clear: the Solar Farm project needed to move forward, but never at the expense of safety. Crews were expected on site every day, and the environment required particular care due to the presence of sensitive solar infrastructure. There was very little margin for error, so the access route solution needed to be dependable whilst protecting both people and the surrounding equipment.

Our team assessed the conditions, working closely with the client, and identified K-Mats as the most suitable option for the site. The mats were installed at the entrance and extended across the working area to form a continuous trackway. Each panel was securely connected using K-Mat Metal Straps, creating the stable and reliable platform that the client needed for heavy plant to move confidently across the ground.

To further support operations, the trackway was installed three mats wide, creating a 12 metres wide access route that allowed machinery to travel safely in both directions. This provided operators with more room to manoeuvre while reducing congestion and improving the overall flow of work on site.

Despite the challenging ground conditions, the installation was carried out from previous expertise, with great care and attention to detail. The team worked methodically to ensure every section was secure and aligned, helping provide the client with the safe, dependable surface that crews could rely on throughout the project.

With a stable access route in place, work could continue smoothly during difficult Winter conditions at the Solar Farm. The choice of mats helped the project stay on track to maintain the high safety standards the client required.
