We were contacted by a local outdoor event company that needed our help accommodating an increased number of visitors than initially expected. Their current car park would not handle the influx, and expanding parking onto the grassed area during wet weather risked long-term impact to the ground from tyre track damage.
The space is regularly used by the public, so protecting the site’s conditions was a consideration that was key from the outset. Without adequate grip, vehicles can lose traction or become stuck, which can quickly restrict access for visitors.
The event ran over multiple days, and as the Bedford company operates across different venues, on-site storage was not available. In this case, our hire service was an ideal option to provide full coverage for the duration of the event, with the matting de-installed once everything was complete.
Additionally, a cost saving was achieved through our per mat, per week hire structure.
Based on the site’s layout and the expected movement of vehicles, the team selected E-Mats with a double-sided traction surface as the most suitable solution. Traffic was required to move in-and-out of the area throughout the day, so the mat’s 80 tonnes load-bearing proved to be critical for distributing weight and preventing disturbance to the ground that could lead to long-term damage.
The installation was laid out in a square formation, with a dual-mat access route for entry, providing sufficient space to manoeuvre and maintain a steady flow of vehicles.
